What could have been and other Yankee stuff
http://www.baseballlibrary.com/homepage/
Some notable items in Yankee History I found interesting
Jan 17 1970..
Major league teams select a record 357 players in the January phase of the annual free-agent draft. Some notable choices: Cleveland spends the top pick on first baseman Chris Chambliss‚ and San Francisco chooses shortstop Chris Speier. Both Chambliss and Speier will star in the major leagues in 1971. Chambliss will win the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award; the rangey (4.85 chances per game) Speier will help to stablize the infield for the N.L. Western division champion San Francisco Giants. In the first round, the Yankees pick one of the gems of the draft but Fred Lynn decides not to sign with them.
April 14 1967
At Yankee Stadium‚ Red Sox rookie Bill Rohr debuts and startles everyone by taking a no-hitter into the 9th inning. But Elston Howard lines a 3-2 pitch for a single to right-center with two outs. Carl Yastrzemski had kept the no-hitter alive with a spectacular grab of a Tom Tresh drive to deep LF to open the 9th. The Red Sox win 3-0‚ beating Whitey Ford‚ who allows a lead off homer to Reggie Smith and a two-run homer to Foy.
(I remember listening to the game) also Elston Howard ending up on the Red Sox that year on
August 3, 1967: Traded by the New York Yankees to the Boston Red Sox for Pete Magrini.
March 22 1972
Nick Mileti‚ owner of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers‚ heads a group that purchases the Cleveland Indians from Vernon Stouffer for an estimated $9 million. Stouffer had turned down an offer from George Steinbrenner to buy the team‚ but when the AL owners reject his proposal to have the Indians play some of their games in the New Orleans Superdome‚ Stouffer decides to sell the team
(Just think. we would all be calling the Cleveland Indians the Evil Empire)
April 15 1976
Newly remodeled Yankee Stadium is jammed with 52‚613 fans for Opening Day ceremonies. The 1923 Yankee team is honored‚ and Bob Shawkey‚ winner of the 1923 Stadium opener‚ throws out the first ball. The Yankees beat the Twins 11-4 on 14 hits‚ but the only HR is hit by Minnesota's Dan Ford
(I was there) later I went with my buddy Dan from the stadium to Nassau Coliseum to see a playoff game (New York Islanders vs the Buffalo Sabres)

It Is Springtime--Take The Day Off Gals
After four long months of cold and winter, we are finally coming up to spring and BBQ season. Therefore, it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this outdoor cooking ritual, as it's the only type of cooking a real man will do, probably because there is an element of danger involved.
When a man volunteers to do the BBQ, the following chain of events are put into motion:
Routine:1. The woman buys the food.
2. The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
3. The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the Man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand
Now, here comes the important part:
4. THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
More routine:
5. The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
6. The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation.
Important again:
7. THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
More routine:
8. The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces and brings them to the table.
9. After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And most important of all:
10. Everyone PRAISES THE MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
11. The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off" and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women!

2009 Predictions
AL East--I look for the Rays to slip a little as everyone will be ready for them,
Red Sox should have enough pitching depth to survive division,
Yankees have a good starting staff if all is healthy, A-Rod is a question mark, Jeter may be slowing down, but don't count him out yet, Can Cano and Matsui return to form and what about Mariano Rivera,
Blue Jays tumble down
AL Central--Twins, Indians and White Sox will battle it out,
Tigers will be the worst team in baseball
AL West--Angels should win a weak division
NL East--Phillies should be able to beat out Mets, Braves and Marlins
NL Central--Cubs will win division, Reds will be this years Rays but look out for the Cards.
NL West--Dodgers should beat out the Giants and D-Backs for the division.
Now for the Picks--Sorry Yankee and Met Fans, Not what you are looking for, But I feel this is the way it is going to go.

Yankee Ticket Prices..OMG (Not for Me!!)
WasWatching.com
-Hal Steinbrenner said Thursday. “Look, there’s no doubt small amounts of our tickets might be overpriced.
My Take (Really Hal, You think so?)
Ticket Prices..There is not that many rich people in New York
Can you say many empty seats if the Yankees do not contend and the economy continues to flounder.
The Team Marketing Report released its annual survey Thursday and said the average price of a Yankees home ticket was a major league-high $72.97, a 76.3 percent increase from last year’s $41.40.
The Boston Red Sox, who had been first for 13 consecutive years, were next at $50.24 following a 0.3 percent rise. The Cubs were third at $47.75 after a 10 percent hike, followed by the New York Mets, who rose 8.6 percent to $36.99 for their first season at Citi Field.
The Arizona Diamondbacks had a major league-low average for the third consecutive year, at $14.31, with the Pittsburgh Pirates at $15.39, Atlanta Braves at $17.05 and AL champion Tampa Bay Rays at $18.35.
The major league average of $26.64 was up 5 percent from $25.37, less than half last year’s 10.1 percent hike.
Among premium seats, the Yankees topped the majors at $510.08, followed by the Cubs ($239.43), Los Angeles Angels ($222.38), Washington Nationals ($192.89), Red Sox ($162.82) and Mets ($149.54). The Colorado Rockies were the major league low at $36.50, with the Milwaukee Brewers at $38.65.

Shocking Breaking News
Also announced by Girardi is that Alex Rodriguez will become the full time Shortstop when he returns, Now projected to be April 13th just in time for the Tampa Bay Rays Home Opener.
One other side note is that the Yankees have signed Free Agent Mark Grudzielanek and he will wear # 2 as the Yankees say they will never retire that number,
The Yankees have also announced that Alex Rodriguez has been named the new Captain of the Yankees.

Yankees No Longer the Model Orginiztion of Sports
Read the Blog below from the "New Stadium Insider"
Add also that if you do not have tickets to field level you will not be allowed to use the Food Courts (Boars Head) and other stands and also to get autographs before the game. After The Blog and Report from New Stadium Insider there is more of my comments.
This has been added on Friday March 27 at 8:51 Pm a blog from Author Jane Heller Confessions of a She Fan More evidence of the rapid decline of the Yankees to a 3rd class Team even in New York.http://janeheller.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/03/the_yankees_and_i_are_going_th.html

Ticketmaster Bait and Switch and New Yankee Stadium Social Stratification Update
Today, we received word that Ticketmaster recognized their error, but was unwilling to make good on it. Here is the email that was sent:
Hello [name redacted], this is Ticketmaster Customer Service with an important alert regarding your order, [order No. redacted]. The tickets that you ordered from Ticketmaster for the New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians on Thursday, April 16, 2009 scheduled at the Yankee Stadium were put on sale inadvertently, allowing you to order tickets at an incorrect price. In other words, you can have your single, overpriced ticket for Opening Day, but it is not going to be the single overpriced Opening Day ticket that you purchased in the first row, it is going to be the one that Ticketmaster decides you can have. Hopefully this guy will give Ticketmaster the finger and let the seat rot.
We are currently holding replacement tickets for you in the price level that you had originally selected in Section 16, Row 9, Seat(s) S5.
Please call customer service at 800-653-8000 on or before 12 noon Eastern time on Monday, April 13, 2009 and you will be given the opportunity to exchange your tickets for these additional tickets to the New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians on Thursday, April 16, 2009 scheduled at the Yankee Stadium.
You are also free to decline the exchange and receive a full refund. If we do not hear from you by noon Eastern on Monday, April 13, 2009 your original tickets will be cancelled and your credit card refunded.
Please note your original tickets will be cancelled and will not be valid for entry.
We regret that we were not able to provide you with the tickets you ordered. We really appreciate your business and hope you give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future.
Switching gears a bit, our post about the introduction of the caste system at the new Yankee Stadium drew interest from around the interwebs, and plenty of banter in the comments section. The "A-Z Guide" has not been updated, but some fans have taken it upon themselves to contact their ticket representatives for some clarification. We would never recommend trusting any information passed along by a Yankee ticket rep. Not because they are incompetent, but because they are constantly fed false information by their clueless leaders. That being said, our buddy "Legendary 23" on Twitter contacted his ticket rep who has always been good for accurate information. According to him, "people will have access to all food courts on all levels" and "the same rule applies to watching bp....you will have to leave and go back to your seat when they are done." Put simply, the guide on Yankees.com "is wrong."
We fully expect an update to the "A-Z Guide" resulting in the disappearance of the verbiage in question. Luckily we will always have the original words archived, proving just how out of touch the Yankee Stadium decision makers were prior to the fan uproar.
I can no longer defend them as their treatment of their own fans are inexcusable. My prediction is that this is going to cost them huge in the next couple of Years. Hank and Hal seem to be running the Yankees into the ground just like CBS did in the 60s to early 70s.If the Yankees start playing .500 ball or worst like they did in the late 60s there will be 40,000 empty seats at the Stadium.
