For the First Time in My Life I am Shocked

Shocked

~ by stickynotetheatre on January 19, 2008.

Something Happened in Sports today that totally shocked me and the world, No one could ever see this coming.

Now like almost everyone I was not stunned one bit by these events
1--1951 Giants come back from 13 1/2 games back to win the NL Flag on Bobby Thompson's HR off of Ralph Branca.
2--Everyone knew that the 1969 Mets would win the NL East with 100 Games and go on to win the World Series vs The Baltimore Orioles
3--Everyone Knew that the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team would beat the Soviet Union Hockey team and go on to win the Gold Medal
4--Everyone knew going into the Bottom of the 9th of game 4 of the 2004 ALCS that the Red Sox Trailing by one run and trailing 3 games to none would come back vs Mariano Rivera and go on to win game 4 of the ALCS and go on to win that game and the next 3 games to become the first MLB team to come back from down 3-0 to win a series, And go on to win the World Series for the 1st time in 86 years.
Everyone knew these events would happen
But I do not think one person on earth thought that Brett Favre would make a comeback to return to the NFL and Play QB for the Vikings. Who would have thunk it?
Favre never in his entire life gave anyone a reason to think he would have done this,
All I have to say is i am Shocked, Shocked!!

Great post except for the mention of 2004...for some reason that entire year is blocked from my memory...

Leave Brettney ALONE!!!!

I don't get the antagonism from Packer fans. I know Badgers-Gophers is a rivalry, but come on, this is the pros. It's not like Favre went to Da Bearssss!

Of course, I knew that having Magic Johnson as a 6-foot-9 center would beat the 76ers in 1980. After all, Bill Russell was a 6-foot-9 center, and didn't he nearly always beat Philadelphia?

And we all knew that the Patriots would beat the Rams in that first Super Bowl... well, Belichick knew. Wonder how...

As for the Giants in '51, my grandmother knew Branca would give up a home run to Thomson. She knew Branca couldn't throw anything but a fastball, and Thomson couldn't throw anything but, and Branca could never take pressure, and she just snapped off the radio. She knew.

Strange: She loved quarterbacks. She loved Montana, Simms, Aikman, Testaverde, Peyton Manning. (Though she was skeptical of Eli, and didn't live to see him lead the Giants all the way.) But she never had much use for Favre. What did she know, and when did she know it?

Uncle Mike,
My dad always told me that he had a 5 on the game and when Branca came in he handed over the 5 before the 1st pitch was thrown, He also would say Seaver was just like Branca and would rather have Koosman in aa big game and later Guidry rather than Seaver
