Yankees sign Mark Teixeira.

In todays economy this seems to be insane, I can understand fans of smaller markets being upset with the Yankees for spending this kind of money. One can argue that John McCain was right when he said the economy is strong..(Ha Ha),
But I will now speak as a Selfish Yankee fan

But overall this is great because,
>First he is not with the Red Sox.
>He fills in a hole that has been vacant since Tino Martinez left.
>We are looking at a lineup right now of
1--Damon--LF
2--Jeter--SS
3--Teixeira--1B
4--A-Rod--3B
5--Matsui--DH
6--Nady--RF
7--Posada--C
8--Cano--2B
9--Swisher--CF

Now if we can deal Matsui with his money off the contract off the books along with all the others that is gone there would be room for Manny and him and Damon can alternate in LF/DH.

The only damper I can put on this is, Can Cano comeback to his 2006-2007 level and will the pitching hold up?..add that Tampa might be as good if not better in 2009 and the Red Sox are not going anywhere I can see 100 wins not being good enough to making the playoffs for one of the 3 top teams in the AL East.
But this is going to be a Merry Christmas for us Yankee Fans,
But next year could be even more fun for teams like Tampa Rays or if another low payroll team in a much smaller market if they can beat out the Yankees again and it can happen.
But I really do not want to hear Red Sox, Met, Dodger fans complain, nor do I want to hear Marlin officials also who won't even pay 1 player top money to stay more than 1 year.

Great News from My High School

This will not mean much to most but it is a personal day of pride for me and where I went to High School!

Happy to see this after The Blue Waves had The Rutgers Cup stolen from them in 1974 when we had the Best team in Long Island! But The Eastern Suffolk County Schools did not get respect from the Western Suffolk Schools.

The Following Story is from Todays "Newsday"

'Waves' named top team in Suffolk

It was a banner year for the Riverhead football team. Led by Miguel Maysonet -- who won the Hansen Award, given to Suffolk's top player -- the Blue Waves were recognized as the best football team in the county.

By a unanimous vote, Riverhead won the Rutgers Trophy Monday night at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner at the Hyatt Wind Watch in Hauppauge.

"It's an honor to win the Rutgers Trophy," Riverhead coach Leif Shay said. "These guys deserve it. The players knew we had all the ingredients to win a title and they took the leadership roles and guided the underclassmen. It was a great ride."

"This caps a great season and it recognizes us as family," Riverhead captain Tyler Gilliam said. "The Rutgers Trophy is given to a team, and I emphasize team. This means so much to our program and all the guys who worked so hard this year to make it happen."

After rumbling through Suffolk Division II, Riverhead became the first Long Island team to produce a 12-0 record. Maysonet rushed for 251 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Blue Waves to a resounding 42-6 victory over Elmont to capture the school's first L.I. Class II championship, and Riverhead averaged 35 points per game.

Sayville, which finished second in the voting with 66 points, captured the Long Island Class III title with a 13-7 overtime win over Bethpage. The Golden Flashes were 11-1 this season and have won three Long Island titles in the past five years. Connetquot was third in the voting with 47 points and rolled to the Long Island Class I crown with a 21-13 win over Freeport. The Thunderbirds won the title for the first time since 1992.

Rambling Thoughts of a Nutball (Dec 1 2008)

Well we have gone through most of Week 13 of the NFL Season.
The Jets (aka) "The Paper-Airplanes" laid an egg versus the Denver Broncos, They are lucky that the Patriots (Patsies), got trampled by the Pittsburgh Steelers, The Jets still control their destiny, They host both the Bills and Dolphins and Go to the 49rs and Seahawks, All are games they should win. All they need to do is to Win the 2 home games and win one other game and they clinch the AFC East,
The Patriots got buried by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Matt Cassel was not sharp at all after 2 great games, (so much for who needs Tom Brady), Meanwhile the Steelers may be playing the best Team in the AFC right now.
The Miami Dolphins kept their playoff chances alive with a win at the Rams, A remarkable turnaround for them. (My Guess is that they will fall short this year).
On Thanksgiving The Titans destroyed the hapless Lions.
The Cowboys won easily vs the Seahawks (SeaTurkeys)
And the Eagles beat the Cardinals on Thanksgiving night (No one saw the game being it was on the (NFL Network).
The Chargers got beat by the Atlanta Falcons as the Falcons drive for a Playoff spot.

Looking at the Playoff picture, Even thought the Vikings are ahead in the NFC North the Schedule is tough After playing the Lions next week they close with @ Arizona then the Falcons and the Giants..Meanwhile the Bears close Home vs Jacksonville, New Orleans, Green Bay then @ Houston.
The Giants will be the #1 seed. The winner of the Bucs vs Panthers will be the # 2 Seed, The loser will be a wildcard.
The Cards will win their 1st division tittle since 1975.
The other Wildcard is the Cowboys for the taking, But the Redskins still have an outside shot.
The Eagles need alot of help.
In the AFC The Titans, Steelers and the Broncos are a lock. The Ravens seem to have a slot locked up and still can win the Division. The Jets and Patriots are fighting it out for the AFC East and the Dolphins have an outside shot.
The Colts seem to have a great shot at the other wildcard slot in their grasp.
Right Now it looks like the Patriots have an uphill battle even though they have 4 games they should win so the Jets could be out if the Patriots win out and the Jets stumble.
That is all for today as we wait for the Hot stove league to heat up, And the NFL continues to the playoffs

Rambling Thoughts of a Nutball (Nov 23)

NFL this week

My Jets have a great day against the Titans. Are they for real? Well being a Jet fan for 42 Years I have my doubts, but Maybe this is the year.

The Texans beat the Browns..Cleveland who many said they could be a contender has to be the most disappointing teams in all of Sports. They have a GM who is hurling F-bombs at the fans. A coach who seems to have lost total control of his team and an ownwer who seems clueless. It just may be time to for the Browns to do what the Dolphins and Falcons have done, Clean house top to bottom and start new. Bring in Bill Cowher to coach and bring in his own GM and President.

The Cowboys win. T.O has a big day, but in the end with him criticizing Jason Garrett.it is just a matter of time till they fall apart

The Bills win big. Have they regained their swagger or was it just playing the Chiefs

A few weeks ago it looked like the Rams had turned it around but they have proved to be among the worst teams in NFL History

The Jacksonville Jaguars were supposed to be real contenders this year but they look like a expansion team failing to execute on bothe sides of the ball..How much longer does Jack Del Rio have?

The Eagles get routed.. Donavon McNabb is benched and he may be done in Philly. You have to think this is Andy Rieds last year too

Atlanta just might be for real. what a turnaround in one year, Are they this years NFL version of the Tampa Rays

Oakland won??? Denver continues to be a Jekyll and Hyde team, Will 8-8 be enough to win the AFC West?

Washington does just enough to win again.
They just might get into the playoffs

And of course you got the Patriots They find a way to win again and stay just 1 game back of the Jets, and the Dolphins really lay an egg and in the 4th quarter totally lay an Egg!

That is it for Today!

The Economy and Sports

I just got an E Mail from the Orlando Magic offering a full season ticket package for the rest of the season for just $5.00 a game. That is the cheapest tickets ever in franchise History, The first season you could get the Cheap tickets for $8.00 a game.

Desperate to get people in to the Arena,
How long till the New York teams and their Billion Dollar Stadiums are just as desperate,
If the economy continues in its Downward Spiral I see 1/2 full stadiums everywhere including Yankee Stadium , Citi Field and The New Jets/Giants Stadium as soon as 2009,and even in Boston and Chicago too.
