Rambling thoughts of a Nutball (Quickie Edition)

Baseball

Yankees vs Phiilies World Series,

Going with my Heart (Yankees in 7)
But for the Yankees to win they must hit better with RISP. and get better bullpen play out of Joba and Hughes.
And if Girardi puts Matsui (as Rumored) in the field he should be fired on the spot.
Phillies need Pedro and Cole Hammels to come through.
The other key is not to make dumb mistakes, That cost the Angels and Twins vs the Yankees.

NFL

Even though they have 2 wins each, Are there 2 worst teams along with the Yucs, and Rams worst in Sports History than the Redskins and Raiders.
This may be the worst year in Sports history to have so many very bad teams,
I think that last years Lions and the 1976 Bucs can beat this team, and for the 176 Bucs to beat these teams is pretty amazing figuring most of those guys are about 76 Years old now.
As far as the Good, Who Dat Saints, (Some Comeback against the Mahi-Mahi's)
The Colts always looks good this time of year.
And do not forget the Patriots, They just keep on going and going. I still think it will be a Steeler/Patriot AFC Championship game, with the winner easily wining the Super Bowl

NBA.

The Celtics are old and has problems with guys like Baby Davis and Rondo who seems to go off the program and I do not know if Garnett and Ray Allen can stay healthy for the entire season
The Cavs are relying on a aged Shaq O.Niell to help Labron James, and the Magic have messed with the Chemistry. IF the Magic personal changes work (Vince Carter) and losing Guys like Courtney Lee and Rafer Alston and the additions to replace them they can come out of the East, But I think it will backfire and it will be a difficult season for D-12 (Dwight Howard)
Someone has to come out of the East, I say it will be the Cavs.

The West has the Lakers and Spurs, The Spurs are old but very deep. The Lakers have proven themselves but they lost Trevor Ariza who does so many little things, But if Ron Artest is focused and the Lakers stay healthy they are the team to beat.

My Pick is Kobe Bryant gets the ultimate satisfaction and The Lakers win over the Cleveland Cavaliers (With Shaq and Labron) in 6 games.

How to make Don Mattingly a Legendary Yankee Of All Time

Just saw this on Paul Francis Sullivan's Terrific Blog Sully Baseball

http://sullybaseball.blogspot.com/2009/10/what-will-this-world-series-have-in.html

Here is what he had to say. (Well Done Sully)

What will this World Series have in common with every other World Series EVER?
Don Mattingly won't be involved in it.
I wrote a post last year about Mattingly's astonishingly bad luck in terms of getting into a World Series... and sadly the post remains relevant.
Chances are he'll be managing next season somewhere and David Lennon at Newsday has Donnie Baseball being a prime candidate for taking over the Indians job.
Wow, if there was a place that had WORSE post season karma than Don Mattingly IT'S CLEVELAND!!!
Maybe the bad karma will cancel each other out.

My Comment. I have a better idea, When Terry Francona retires I feel the Boston Red Sox should give Donny Baseball a 10 year Contract to manage the Boston Red Sox or at the very least put him in as a uniformed coach, As a Yankee Fan we can say with his record We as Yankee Fans will Love him forever and thank him for putting on a Red Sox Uniform. Thanks Sully for reminding me of the Mattingly Record (Curse) and for my inspiring me to come up with this idea.

Rambling Thoughts Of A Nutball (October 19)

Baseball

The Dodgers seem to be outclassed, The Phillies should be able to pound the Dodgers into submission, as long as it does not come down to the bullpens.

The Angels have been getting decent Starting pitching but Brain Fuentes one bad pitch to A-Rod is crushing, Also The Yankees have taken advantage of every Angel mistake, while the Angels let the Yankees of the hook when Cano and Jeter made bad errors, The only time the Angels did anything was against A J Burnett by scoring on a wild pitch but they had a chance to bury the Yankees in that inning and several others in Game 2, Vladimir Guerrero is killing the Angels with just awful at bats, It reminds me of what the At Bats Alphonse Soriano did in the 2003 World Series when all you had to do was throw a ball within 200 feet of home plate and Soriano would swing, The Angels should consider either benching him or moving him down to 7th or 8th in the lineup,
Saying that the Yankees need to start hitting more, They cannot keep on counting on having 5 or 6 Guys coming out of the bullpen and stopping the Angels,

NFL.

We are witnessing some of the worst teams in NFL history this year.

Ranking the worst (BTW these may be the worst team in team sports history)

1-----Washington Redskins (They play winless teams every week and only has 2 wins)
2-----Tampa Bay Yucs (They may have lost to the Redskins but they still are a little better_
3-----Tennessee Titans
4-----St Louis Rams
5-----KC Chiefs
6-----New York Paper Airplanes
6 tie--Oakland Raiders

The New York Paper Airplanes are back to the Glory Days led by Mark (Bubby Brister) Sanchez
The play calling was awful the Offensive line is just offensive, and the team is very undisciplined.
Do not be surprised if it gets worst this weekend vs the Raiders

The Giants just laid an egg, Maybe they are not as good as we thought they were.

Just as we thought the Bengals might be an elite team they lay an egg

Well so much for the Lions improving

How about that "GREAT" Raven Defense

I know the Redskins beat Tampa but to me the Redskins are the worst team in team sports history,

While Philadelphia is happy about the Phillies the Eagles are very inconsistent and is capable to lose to anyone

This just in Tom Brady is pretty good, But which Patriots team is going to show up any given week

And finally the Jacksonville Jaguars sent all 17 of the fans in attendance home happy.
One has to wonder if the NFL will not move the Jags during the season

NHL

Wow, Those Islanders and Maple Leafs are great teams aren't they?

Texans 13 at Bengals 31 (Bengals look to for real)

Lions 17 at Packers 23 (Lions give a good fight, but no win in Green Bay)

Ravens 23 at Vikings 31 (Favre puts up big numbers but he gets hit alot in this game and becomes to feel the bruises as the season goes on)

Browns 6 at Steelers 38 (Steelers struggles end against the Brown and
Girly(Man-gini)

Panthers 13 at Yucs 6 (Yucs struggles just get worst)

Eagles 38 at Raiders 6 (Raiders continues to sink into oblivion)

Titans 16 at Patriots 23 ( Patriots hold off Titan rally led by new QB Vince young who comes in the game in the 3rd Qtr.)

Sunday Night

Bears 23 at Falcons 27 (Classic Sunday night battle between Two very exiting teams and Two very good QBs)

Monday Night

Broncos 24 at Chargers 10 (Broncos magic continues and Chargers season continues to spiral down)

Rambling Thoughts of a Nutball

Here we go

1st Predictions for Baseball League Championship series.

NLCS-Phillies over Dodgers in 6

Just feel that the Phillies have a little too much for the Dodgers, But if this becomes a battle of the Late inning Bullpens the edge goes to the Dodgers, The difference in this series will be Cliff Lee and Ryan Howards big bat, I truly think Manny Ramirez will fail when needed

ALCS-Yankees in 7

Maybe I am viewing this through Yankee Colored Glasses.
The Angels have the Heart of a team of Destiny, They are playing inspired ball.
The Starting Pitching first 3 starters edge goes slightly to the Yankees, If it gets to a 4th Starter Kazmir gives the Angels an edge there, The Bullpen edge is to the Yankees, The Angels bullpen is not what it once was.
The infield edge goes to the Yankees, with the addition of Mark Texeria and with Robinson Cano's Maturity along with Derek Jeter playing like it is 1999 and Alex Rodriguez finnaly playing up to his potential makes this a pretty big Yankee advantage
The OutField advantage edge goes to the Angels, The Angels having Tori Hunter along with Jaun Rivera and Former Yankee Bobby Abreu, over a Mediocre Johny Damon a Smart but not smooth Nick Swisher and a Very Good Melky Cabrerra
The DH is pretty equal with a very good hitting Hideki Matsui, and a very Dangerous Vladimir Guerrero (Both are aging and show it at times)
The Bench edge goes to the Yankees,
When it comes down to it the Yankees just seem to have a little too much and win a Classic 7 game series.

Now the NFL,
The Colts, Giants, Saints, and Vikings along with the very surprising Denver Broncos are on top of the NFL, The Miami Dolphins seem to be a much better team with Chad Henne at QB, (Could this be a Tom Brady like replacement?)
The Jets Defense was embarrassed by the Dolphins, The Patriots failed at crunch time once again. They still may win the division but they have taken a step backwards, The Time of the Patriots as the NFL elite may be over.
The Ravens defence is not what it was, and The Steelers seem to be suffering from the Super Bowl Hangover, But I still think they can recover.
The Chargers are not "Who We Thought They Were"
But the Broncos might be the biggest surprise of the Year,
In the NFC The Giants, Saints appears to be headed to playing a 2nd game after this Sunday in the NFC Championship Game,
I still think by the end of the Year Brett Favre will get hammered and Bruised and will not be able to carry the Vikings to the promised land, The Cowboys are a mediocre team at best.
Now for the Worst, Has there ever been so many bad teams as there is right now,
The Bills, Browns, and Lions all have 1 win and will be lucky to win 3 games this year.
The Titans is 0-5 but I still think they can win 5 or 6 games but they are a huge disappointment
The Redskins have 2 wins but they are among the Worst Teams of the past decade
I believe we may have 10 teams this year that may have lost to last years Lions or the 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs or those Great New Orleans "Aint's" teams
The other bad-bad-bad teams, The Raiders who will be lucky to win another game thsi year and may have the #1 draft pick every year for the foreseeable future.
The Redskins are the Raiders East with Dan Snyder as the owner.
The Tampa Bay Yucs are back to the days of 10+ losses for years to come
The Rams?? Well they will have a new Owner so there is hope they may have something to cheer about in Rams country, The question is, Who moves to L A first, The rams or the Jaguars?
And then there is the Chiefs, Once a proud team along with the raiders of the Old AFL has become a forgettable franchise

Well that is it for this rambling mind for this week.

and Are the Titans, Dolphins, Panthers and Cards going to be huge disappointments.

Cincinnati 23---Ravens 24 (Still do not believe in the Bengals, Ravens want to get back on track)

Steelers 27--Lions 16 (Sorry Lion Fans, You still have a ways to go, Steelers want to start a winning streak)

Cowboys 27---Chiefs 6 (Chiefs just the medicine Romo and Company needs)

Raiders 3--Giants 43 (Carr Starts and Gets 5 TD Passes and 437 Yards then Raiders Trade 5 # 1 Draft picks to Giants for Carr)

Sunday Night

Colts 38--Titans 17 (It just gets worst for the Titans, Vince Young takes over as QB in the 3rd Qtr and throws 2 TD Passes)

Monday Night

Jets 24--Dolphins 13 (Wildcat works a couple of times but Defense of the Jets will frustrate Henne and The 35,000 Dolphin fans among the 70,000 fans in Jets Stadium South) Braylon Edwards makes a 54 Yard TD Reception in his first catch.

Rambling Thoughts Of A Nutball

Baseball.

Looking at a Twins win Today as the Tigers Complete a Choke Job not seen since the 64 Phillies
If the Twins win I would have Correctly Predicted all 4 AL Playoff teams and 2 of the 4 NL Teams.
I missed badly on the Reds. and missed the Cubs. I did say watch out for the Cards but I still missed them having a solid season. I also did not expect the Yankees to do as well as they did.

Here is the link to my Post in April
http://nutballgazette.blogspot.com/2009/04/2009-predictions.html

1st Round I am picking the
Yankees over the Twins/Tigers winner in 4
Angels to Finally figure out the Red Sox in 4 (Red Sox pitching is off and the Angels will run Veretek into Retirement)

Rockies to stun the Phillies in 5
Cards to beat the Dodgers in 4

Football

I was a medicore 10-4 this past week

>Mark Sanchez sure looked like a rookie for the Jets but I still am encourged by the Defense
>I am stunned on how bad the Titans are playing. I expect Vince Young to be starting very soon
>Rumors of the Patriots demise are greatly exaregerated, But Ravens are still real good
>Browns blow maybe one of only 2 or 3 chances to win a game in Eric Manginis last year as a head coach in the NFL
>The Yucs are really bad, I look for a couple of 12+ loss seasons and total disintrest in Tampa Bay football in Tampa just like it was from the early 80s till late 90s. At Lesat Tampa has the Gators and now USF Bulls to root for,
>The Rams?? Are they still in the NFL?
>It is going to be a long season in Dallas, Maybe Jerry Jones will dump The Coaching staff and get a real football man to run the team, This is the only way they ever will return to prominance in the NFL.
>What is going on in Denver? They just might be alot better this year than anyone thought, Though not next week vs the Patriots (Just a side note on Former Patriot Ast Coach McDaniel, He is sucseeding in his 1st year, But so did so did the worst coach in NFL History Eric Mangini)
{Yes Mangini is worst than Rich Kotite}
>San Diego looks like the biggest disappointment of the season in Norv Turners last season ever as a NFL Head Coach.
>Finally Brett Favre. Truly amazing. But I still do not think he can keep it going all season, He is 40 years old (on Oct 10th)
